Party at Our House

Jeff and Lisa visited us last weekend! We had been looking forward to this since the day they left from their last visit a year and a half ago. Lisa and I keep in touch and stay so close, but letters and phone conversations can only supply so much compared to actually being with a person. I think we made the most of our two and a half days together, and of course we're looking forward to our next visit!

Here is Wesley and Ava at Old Fort Harrod. It's a living history replica of the one settled in the 1700's. They're looking at the nanny goats here.

This was our "tourist" day of the visit, so after the fort we headed to Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill for lunch. There's a little bit of living history here, too, especially in the restaurant. We loved the homemade crackers and tomato soup, but the gelatin salad had us guessing what was in it. Cucumber, can you believe that!?

The second day of the visit was major kid day. They got to stay home all day and play on the swingset, work on puzzles, and eat kid food like sloppy joes, mac'n cheese, and jell-o (no cucumbers). During their very long, much needed nap, Lisa and I went shopping! The daddies stayed home to watch football and cook dinner. So I guess it was a major mommy day too!

One of the big hits for the kids was story time with Jeff! The favorite book, unfortunately, was a really wordy Winnie the Pooh book that, unedited, takes about 15 minutes to read.

On Sunday morning, when everyone was packing up to leave, I was so sad and having grandmother-like thoughts! Mostly I was thinking about how I had just met Claire, and the next time I see her she'll probably already be a year old! Then I was thinking about all the kids ages and how long it will be until they play together again. I can imagine us staying close now, even though it's hard, but when our kids are grown Lisa and I are going to have so much fun together. We have to work hard for the friendship now, but it'll be worth it in 20 years when it's easier and we have such a history together.


When I think of Lisa and our brief visits, I think of this quote, "God has given us memories so that we might have roses in winter."
