Our New Gingerbread Tradition

Our first gingerbread house was a huge success! We very wisely chose to construct it when my parents were visiting on Christmas Eve. It would have been very difficult to keep our sanity managing the kids by ourselves! As it was, Wesley very quickly got a major sugar high and my parents were shocked at his behavior. It sure is good for a grandparent to see first hand that a kid really can have too much sugar!
While I made the royal icing, everyone else was busy unwrapping candy. The kids were really good at this (go figure!) and Cora even obeyed the "Don't eat yet" rule pretty well.
I was most surprised at how much Pappaw got into the project. He's very interested in construction! Our first design fell apart, so he helped us build a roof that was stable and still cute.
We all stayed with the project until it was complete with landscaping, cars in the driveway, and even fish floating in the pond. (Yuck!) The back view is above and the front of the house is below.
