A Hurricane in KY?

That's right, Hurricane Ike got us on Sunday! The 40 mph winds would have been standard in Iowa, but they had trees down all over the place in Kentucky. The picture looks bad but we're feeling blessed. Our van was parked under the tree. Right under, as in it brushed the antenna every time we parked. The wind actually blew the tree away from our van when it fell, and it only left some minor scratches.
About 2/3 of the tree came down, so there was no saving it. I was sad because it was a pretty tree and mostly because Wesley was just getting really good at climbing way up in it.

Two neighbors came right away and helped Eric clean it up a little, and Eric's dad came and helped even more. We realized we couldn't haul an entire tree away, so it was great to get a professional tree pruner out on Wednesday to take it away and grind out the stump. I enjoyed meeting the tree pruner! It's fun to see people who enjoy their work, and this guy was working from sun-up to sundown cleaning up trees, and he definitely had a big smile on his face!

We're looking forward to planting a new tree in November. Our house has definitely lost some curb appeal, and now we can plainly see how close the neighbors are!
